A Legacy Table

Restore-The-TableHappy Mother’s Day to all the mom’s out there! This Sunday Pastor Ryan taught out of the book of Ephesians. We looked at what it means to honor our mother’s. Below are some great points of how we honor our parents.

Important Priorities of Obeying Your Parents

  1. Childhood Obedience- In Ephesians 4:1-4 Paul was talking to children. One of the ways that we honor our parents is through obedience. The reason for this is when we obey our parents we are also obeying God, because he commands us to obey our parents.
  2. Generational Appreciation- We should honor our parents and specifically our mothers today regardless of age. Whether we are adults or we are children, we should honor out mothers because it is Biblical and they are worthy of honor.
  3. Social Order- The family structure and the measure to which we honor our parents and submit to their authority becomes the barometer of the rise and fall of nations. Honoring our parents has enough significance that it effects everything in our society.

Pastor Ryan also gave a few different ways that we can honor our mothers:

How to Honor Mother’s

  1. Listen to Her- Listen to your mother; it speaks so much value into her.
  2. Respect Her- Give her the honor that she is due.
  3. Protect Her- Take care of her and make sacrifices for her.
  4. Thank Her- Write a letter to your mom thanking he for all that she has done for you.

Scripture Passage: Deuteronomy 30:19

The Blessing by Dr. John Trent.

We all will and are passing on a legacy to the people around us. This legacy can either be a blessing or a curse.  We can learn how to live out the blessing everyday by choosing to live and give the Blessing to those in our life.

It all begins with a choice. Deuteronomy 30:19 reminds us that we have two different choices:

  1. Life or Death
  2. Curse or Blessing

The Choice to Bless involves:

  1. Appropriate Meaningful Touch
  2. Speak Message (Praise)
  3. Attach High Value
  4. Picture of Special Future
  5. Genuine Commitment

Discussion Points:

  • Are there parts of your life where you have denied the blessing that the Lord offers us?
  • Who can you give the Blessing too?
  • What type of animal are you? (the lion, the otter, the golden retriever or the beaver)
  • How does knowing the personality type of those around you help you relate to them?
